Live Animals
Wwe lived in Antigua for 14 years before going to San Cris. So I am not new to these markets, but this is the first market where I’ve seen the number of live animals for sale. Chickens, turkeys. I’m talking like everywhere alive. They’re killing the animals right in front of you.
Chilies and Spices
It’s an experience that you have to visit. They have spices because Mexico is known for its chilies. They have just thousands of different variations. And it’s so cool to see the spices. They also have whole rows of cheeses, fresh cheeses, and homemade cheeses.

2nd Floor
Upstairs is where you’ll find the majority of the ceramics, the candles. They have a lot of copal, which is the local incense that they use, and many others.
Food Stalls
I personally do not eat at the markets anymore. I used to enjoy that, but because I’m constantly getting sick, I prefer not to eat at the stalls.
There are chicken stalls, there are seafood stalls with shrimps that are toppled over. Fish. I mean, it’s just nonstop. There are whole areas of butcher shops for beef and for pig and chorizos. We’re talking like chorizo is the size of half of your body.
But if you have a strong stomach, I always say go at your own risk. I recommend trying their local food because their local comedores that’s the name of the local eateries all over Mexico and especially inside the markets.
How To Get There?
It’s super easy to get to. It’s in the historical center. You could walk to it from wherever you’re at. It’s really easy to get to and just go crazy. If you want to buy stuff, make sure you bring a backpack with you. And pesos. They don’t accept anything else. And just have fun because that place, it’s fun. And try to be adventurous. Try the different foods, the different fruits, the different everything.
