If you’re vegan or vegetarian and travel a lot, you must be used to searching for options suitable to your needs, it happens to me and my family all the time, that’s why I always like to talk about the restaurant I found and like on my travels. In today’s article, I will talk about the best vegan restaurants in San Cristobal de las Casas.
We just recently discovered a really cool app called Happy Cow. It’s great for vegetarians and vegans all over the world, where people post all the different options and restaurants in the area you’re visiting. Of course, once we discovered it, we are now addicted to it.
If you’re traveling to San Cristobal, you should read my full guide about it, also I have a useful article talking about a local market, Mercado Viejo in San Cris.

Best Vegan Restaurants in San Cristobal de las Casas
Te Quiero Verde
Te Quiero Verde is located right in the heart of the historic district of San Cristobal de las Casas, which just happens to be literally three blocks from our house, our Airbnb. Of course, we had to go and check it out, it’s owned by rock climbers, although they personally weren’t there.
We had to go and check it out even more so, and it’s an adorable little restaurant, probably with like four or five tables in the front. Then they have a little area in the back that’s outside as well.

Menu
They have an extensive menu, all 100% vegan and it’s quite flavorful. You could choose so many different things there that I don’t even want to go into.
But they have sandwiches, they have tacos, they have Mexican foods, they have pastas. They do have a wide variety of vegan options.
Prices
Everything is between four dollars to eight dollars per dish, no more than $8 altogether.
And that’s including, like, when you add on the extra mushrooms or some extra stuff. Cute, delicious, and tasty. They do accept credit cards, which quite a lot of restaurants here do not, without any extra fee on top. So if you are into vegan or vegetarian food, definitely a place you need to check out. It’s adorable, fun, and it’s cheap.

Veganos La Taqueria
This little restaurant is located about two, or three blocks in the heart of centro historico, San Cristobal de las Casas. From our house, actually, we’re staying in the little house, and it is called Veganos La Taqueria, literally meaning vegan taco place. So, of course, we have to check it out. It is super durable and really colorful.
It’s kind of interesting, though, because the girls that are working there are indigenous, so even though they are working in a vegan restaurant, they don’t fully grasp the concept of everything vegan. I wanted to get a coffee there, and I asked for almond milk or soy milk, and all they kept on her saying is, there’s no milk. Even though they didn’t understand the concept of almond is actually a veggie equivalent of milk, which was kind of cute, they were really sweet.

Menu
They have a huge menu. They have burritos and challadas. They have all these different styles of meats that are vegan. I mean, the menu is quite extensive. It’s a cute little place right in the center of San Cristobal de las Casas.
Price
The food is good. It’s humongous portions, very well priced, about anywhere. Four dollars to six dollars for the main meal in total.
The meals are huge, you could take them home if you have too much left over. They have a lot of different drinks for you to choose from as well. If you are into tacos, and you’re vegetarian, without a doubt, this is your best option for sure. Tasty, clean, and overall, just a fun and sweet experience.
