Tenerife has long been a go-to favourite for Europeans. It’s hardly surprising, Tenerife offers everything we love about summer, and then some. One of the most popular resorts on the island is lively and bright Los Cristianos.
Flights to Reina Sofia Airport are plentiful all year around, but especially so in summer, when temperatures soar and visitors flock to this sunny island to top up the tan and enjoy the care-free vibe. A short transfer to resort and you’re ready to enjoy all the varied activities Los Cristianos has to offer. Of course, the best way to really enjoy any break is to make sure you’re not watching every penny you spend, so take full advantage of those cost-cutting means before you fly and you’ll be able to truly enjoy your time away, guilt-free.

I’ve found a great way to save money is to be clever about how you get to the airport. Airport taxis and public transport can be costly, especially when further distances come into play. Unfortunately for me, whichever airport I choose to fly from, I have a fair distance to travel, so it made sense for me to travel in my own car and pre-book airport parking. I haven’t looked back – this is one extra I’m hooked on, and I’d recommend you look into it too. I recently used Birmingham Airport parking and found a great deal.
Los Cristianos offers plenty to spend those saved pounds on, from shopping to water parks and plenty of night-life. Day-time tends to be centred mainly around the large beach, and you’ll find plenty of water-sports for a hot day’s cool down, or alternatively the aforementioned water-park is a definite must-do day out. There is a free shuttle bus running to the park, so transportation is easy.
Getting around resort is quite easy, however if you’re able, I’d really recommend hiring a car and getting out and about, exploring the local countryside and neighbouring resorts. The island’s biggest focal point, impossible to miss, is Mount Teide, and this is a great place to visit, perfect for getting out of the hustle and bustle of resort and into the quiet of nature. If you’re feeling energetic, you can get your walking boots on and hike up, but I’d be catching the cable car and checking out the view, without breaking a sweat!
One of the huge advantages of Tenerife is that the island is a tax free shopping heaven, which means plenty of bargains! Los Cristianos itself offers the usual tourist tack, however head to the capital, Santa Cruz, for a better standard of retail therapy.
Night-life is predictably brash, bright and like being at home, but with better weather and colourful cocktails! British food is plentiful, so if you’re picky with your palate, you’ll have no problem finding something to suit.
There are many great value package deals to Los Cristianos around, and a short internet search will bring many to the fore. Whether you choose all inclusive, self-catering or half board, your holiday will certainly be a sunny one. Remember to save money before you fly, by pre-booking your airport extras, such as Gatwick parking, and your glittering summer break will be as carefree as the vibe in resort.
