Knowing what kind of moving company you need and what each and everyone can offer you at the price they ask is the first key step to a stress-free long-distance move. Do they offer a packing service? Will they come and collect your boxes, or will you need to transport them to a pick-up point? If you’re moving overseas, you might even consider looking into a freight forwarder to ship your things.

You may not think you require a freight forwarder who can import from china to transport your belongings, when it comes to ensuring that your possessions turn up at your new property unharmed, this could very well be the sign of an efficient and trustworthy service.

Be Ruthless With Clearing Out

We all have a bit of a hoarder nature when it comes to our belongings, but when moving long-distance, there comes a time when we have to say goodbye to a lot of our hoarded goods. Moving can take a lot of work, and packing takes up a lot of your time, so why bother with packing anything that you don’t need? Only pack what is necessary, and throw out anything you don’t need, but be ruthless with deciding what you do and don’t need. You can throw out, donate or sell anything you aren’t taking with you!

Keep Anything Important With You During Your Move

Keys to your new home, any documents you require as well as any medications, toiletries and a change of clothes or two are great things to keep with you at all times. This way, any delays or mix-ups with your moving company won’t leave you completely stranded. Similarly, anything of value like laptops, jewelry, and other important documents like passports and driving licenses should also be kept with you to avoid them being lost in the case of an accident.

Mark And Label Your Boxes

You’ll thank yourself for this later, but make sure that you clearly mark all of your boxes! Color-code them by room if you can, and it’ll be much easier knowing what boxes will need to go where once you arrive at your new home. Marking each box with a number, the name of the room on the top, or any other system that works for you can even aid the removal company in ensuring that your boxes are put somewhere useful to make things easier for you, and for them! Packing is exhausting enough in and of itself, don’t make the unpacking process even more so!
