Why You Should Water-Ski In Costa Rica – And How You Can Do It

So you’re going to Costa Rica. First off, good for you! Costa Rica is a beautiful country that offers an abundance of activities, a sustainable ecosystem, and some very friendly, welcoming locals. But on another note, are you ready?

That is to say, with the number of ways you can get out of your comfort zone and have a bit of an adventure, are you ready to take that adventure by the scruff of the neck and make the most out of it?

Hopefully, you are – because visiting Costa Rica is best done through experiencing the country rather than observing. You want a way to get the adrenaline and excitement flowing, and we’ve got the perfect way for you to do this.

Water Skiing In Costa Rica

Yep, you read that right. It’s time to get your skis on and get out on the water. Costa Rica has a number of beautiful coastlines and lakes, which are perfect for water sports activities. Waterskiing itself is a great way to have some fun, test your skills, and really appreciate the scenery whilst you’re doing it.

Need more convincing? Here are a few reasons why you should try it:

The Water Is Warm And Inviting

Although the water temperature of Costa Rica fluctuates a little depending on location – from 80F to 83F – it never gets too cold. This is a good thing when it comes to waterskiing, as you might find yourself submerged in the water quite a bit – especially if you struggle to maintain that all-important balance. With warm ocean waters, however, this is more of a luxury than a problem!

There Are Companies To Help You

Another great thing about water skiing in Costa Rica is the support that you can find as a beginner. If you’re traveling down to Arenal, for instance, volcano.cr contains a friendly group of people who can take you out on the water and show you the ropes, ensuring that your water adventure goes off without a hitch.

The Scenery Is Beautiful

In calm waters, water skiing can be as simple as hanging on and watching the world speed past you. This is a good thing in Costa Rica, as the world around you is pretty beautiful. Say you’re water skiing in Lake Arenal: you have the rainforests, the mountains and the volcano right in front of you. You can simply ski along and take it all in. Just try not to get too distracted. Again, balance is important!

Vacations Are About Adventure

Another reason you should waterski in Costa Rica is that, quite simply, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is what vacations are all about. Even if you’ve never water skied before, having an adventure is good for you, and it’s important to do something different for a change. Trust us. When you make that first jump, with the water under your feet and the blue skies shining above you, it will be a moment you’ll never forget. That’s reason enough to give it a try.

But How Do You Water Ski?

In terms of the actual process of waterskiing, it’s important to know the basics before you take the leap – quite literally!

With this in mind, below are a few pointers explaining exactly what waterskiing is all about and how you can do it:

  • First Off, Book A Company

As mentioned previously, companies like Volcano Watersports can offer you all the equipment and instructions that you need to make your first go a success.

  • Listen And Learn

By that, we mean listen to your instructors and trust that they know what they are doing. A big part of waterskiing is letting the boat – and the people on it – do the work whilst you find your balance and simply follow the wake that they’re creating.

  • Crouch Then Straighten

A big part of getting water skiing right is the few seconds after the boat starts moving. You’re going to start off low, with your knees bent, and then straighten up your legs. The boat will be going at an appropriate speed when you start off, so it’s all about balance and instinct, and then you can enjoy yourself on the water.

  • Get Comfortable And Let It Rip!

Once you have a feeling for the water and you’re feeling confident, this is when you can try out a few tricks. Don’t be anxious about failing. This is all about testing yourself and having fun. Go for it and – most importantly – enjoy the experience!
