Checklist for Traveling Europe After Brexit
- Nothing is changing in 2020 at all
That’s right, if you are concerned about your trip this year, don’t be because it will all run exactly as it has done while we were still a member of the EU. So tick that stress off your list immediately!
From 1st January 2021, there will be some changes you’ll need to be mindful of:
- Check your passport
It must have longer than 6 months left on it after your return and passports also need to less than 10 years old (even if it has 6 months or more left on it)
- No visa, no worry
You won’t be required to obtain a visa for travel in Europe if you are going for leisure purposes only. You’ll be able to stay for up to 90 days in a 180-day window so there will be no additional paperwork required
- Check your travel arrangements
Are you planning to drive abroad? You may need some extra documentation if so – certain countries will mandate an International Driving Permit (IDP) so make sure you check. If you’re going over in your car, you’ll also need a GB sticker and a green card from your insurer (this can take up to 1 month)
- Ensure you are covered
We used to be covered by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), and this might not be valid after 1st January 2021. It’s always good practice to get the proper insurances but is even more pertinent post-Brexit
- Pack your med!
Brexit or no Brexit, you always need to take any medication you need with you so make sure you order all of yours in plenty of time from Click Pharmacy, along with any other travel essentials you might need
- Your furry friend
If you are traveling with your pet, the rules are changing around this, and you will need to allow for up to 4 months to sort this. Any existing pet passport won’t be valid any further, so make sure you leave plenty of time – you don’t want your holiday spoiling by missing your best friend!
Fortunately, the changes to our European holidays won’t be too severe following Brexit, and on the plus side, we will be eligible to purchase duty-free goods, so there are some upsides! If you follow the checklist and do your preparations in enough time, your holiday to Europe will be stress-free.
