1) Attend a festival

Throughout the summer months, there are a number of festivals happening in Barrie. One of the most popular is Kempenfest, which takes place in August. This festival celebrates the arts and features a variety of performances, as well as food and drink vendors.

Another great festival to check out is the Barrie Jazz & Blues Festival. Held in September, this event brings together some of the best jazz and blues performers from across Canada. There’s also plenty of food and drinks available, as well as a children’s area for the little ones.

If you’re in town during winter, be sure to check out the Barrie Winterfest. This festival is held in February and includes a variety of family-friendly activities, such as ice skating, snow tubing, and a carnival.

2) Go skiing or snowboarding

If you’re looking for a winter activity, skiing and snowboarding are perfect choices. There are a few ski resorts near Barrie, including Horseshoe Resort, Snow Valley,  Blue Mountain, and Mount St. Louis Moonstone. They offer a variety of slopes for all levels of skiers and riders. Of these, Horseshoe Resort is typically regarded as the best, while Blue Mountain is the largest with 42 runs and 15 lifts.

3) Enjoy the waterfront

Barrie is located on the shores of Lake Simcoe, so it’s no surprise that many people who visit the city want to spend some time on the water. There are a number of parks and beaches along the shoreline, as well as restaurants and bars. The best place to enjoy the waterfront is probably Heritage Park, which offers a beautiful view of Kempenfelt Bay. You can relax on the beach, participate in activities like volleyball and picnicking, or take a walk or bike ride on the 6.7-kilometer trail along Kempenfelt Bay.

4) Visit downtown

There’s also plenty to do in downtown Barrie. You can check out the shops and restaurants on Bayfield Street, go for a walk along the waterfront promenade, or visit one of the museums or art galleries. The MacLaren Art Centre is a must-see, especially if you’re interested in Canadian art.

There’s also the Barrie Molson Centre, which is home to the Barrie Colts (a junior hockey team) and the Barrie Baycats (a baseball team). If you’re visiting during a game day, be sure to check out one of these sports venues.

And don’t forget about nightlife – there are plenty of bars and clubs in downtown Barrie as well.

5) Check out a craft brewery

Barrie has a massive craft beer scene, with a number of breweries and brewpubs. If you’re a fan of craft beer, be sure to check out some of these places. Some of the best breweries include Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, Barrie Brewing Company, Nickelbrook Brewery, and Stack Brewing.
