Sighisoara, the timeless inhabited citadel, was founded in the 12th century by the Transylvanian Saxons brought in the area by Hungarian kings. Sighisoara is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. It is approximately 70km from Sovata, and is one of the benchmark cities in Transylvania, a favorite for foreign tourists. The charm and historical value of the buildings and streets of Sighisoara have determined its inclusion in UNESCO heritage.

If already in this part of the country it is also advisable to visit Corund, a village located approximately 18km away from Sovata. Corund is famous for its pottery and ceramic works, being one of the pottery centers of Transylvania. Each household here has a small workshop, and the pots with various shapes and sizes are artistically painted by local masters. The motifs are floral or zoomorphic, of Székely origin and are available in significant colors such as red, cobalt blue, brown or multi-coloured.
