Located about two hours East of Abu Dhabi, the city of Al Ain is situated amongst plantations and oases as well as is fed by natural springs. This area gets the name ‘Garden city’ from these. It was once an important stop on the route between the caravan road between Gulf and Oman. It is also the birthplace of the UAE founder Sheikh Zayed. As a visitor, you will love its zoos, museums, forts, and UNESCO world heritage sites. What it lacks in ultra-high skyscrapers, it makes up in its cultural authenticity. Al Ain Things to Do
Looking for something exciting to do in the city of Al Ain? Leave the planning to us and just follow this list for an all-all-around experience.
Take a trip to Jahili Fort
The sandy-colored Jahili Fort is one of Al Ain’s most seen and recognizable landmarks which was built in 1891 to provide defense for the city against attacking forces. In its 135 years, it has undergone a number of renovations and has seen itself being used from a defense fort to the headquarters of the Oman Trucial Scouts. You are absolutely free to explore the grounds at your own leisure. The best part is that you can climb to the top for a great panoramic view.
Sir Wilfred Thesiger’s permanent exhibition.
Sir Wilfred Thesiger was an English travel writer and explorer who traversed the huge Rub’ al Khali desert in the 1940s. This exhibition features the photographs which he took while on the journey to document his experiences. It also includes some treasured possessions which he kept while traveling.
Green Mubazzarah Park
Situated along the foothills of the Jebel Hafeet Mountain, Green Mubazzarah Park is another feather in the city’s crown. Want to have a picnic or barbecue? This is the ideal location to have a small get-together with family and friends. You will also be able to take in the hot springs right along with the cold mountain air. If you need some much-needed relaxation then this is the place to head to. Moreover, you can spend the night in here if you want to just make sure to pack the tent.
Enjoy a game at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium
Generally taken to be one of the most sophisticated and advanced sporting centers in the area. The facade of the exterior has been inspired by the palm tree and has a seating arrangement of 25,000. If you are worried about the heat, then here’s a little tidbit for you-this is the only stadium in the world that has a roof that can give shelter to all the spectators present in the stadium. If you do not have much for sports then the stadium is open for private tours on days when matches aren’t scheduled.
Al-Ain is a cultural wonder where you will be able to experience peace and solitude away from the daily routine of life. So hop on a plane and gift yourself that vacation.
