Another Kind of Green Tourism: The Top Cannabis-Friendly Destinations Worldwide

Another Kind of Green Tourism: The Top Cannabis-Friendly Destinations Worldwide
In this post we explore six cannabis-friendly destinations that have either legalized bud or decriminalized it to the point of being de facto legal.

Whether you’re traveling explicitly for the luxury of buying legal bud, or you simply want to relax on a long vacation abroad, cannabis legalization can factor into your trip planning process.

Below, let’s explore six cannabis-friendly destinations that have either legalized bud or decriminalized it to the point of being de facto legal. In addition to their lax approach to cannabis, these destinations were hand-picked because they’re fabulous vacation spots in their own right.

A few words of caution before beginning: always be discreet and mindful of others when enjoying cannabis abroad; always enjoy within the parameters of local laws and customs; and always keep your cannabis fresh on the road with a tightly sealed container and 2-humidity control pack.

Essential Travel Resources

❗Don’t forget travel insurance

This company is the one I trust, it’s one of the most essential things for any trip. It has your back in case you get sick abroad, or have an accident.

🎒Pack smarter, not bulky

🏡Where to Stay – Here are Suggestions

This is my favorite place to look for accommodations, it offers different types, a ton of locations, and good price options.

🗺️Get Around Hassle-Free

This one is the perfect option to look for different transportation options between cities, from flights, buses, and taxis to minivans and more.

🛫Find Cheap Flights

Whenever I need to fly, I head to this website for low-cost flights.

The Laid-Back Choice: Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver sits in the center of the Pacific Northwest, a city of immense natural beauty and urban energy. Plus, the cannabis culture here has roots going way back. Not only is cannabis legal (as it is across Canada), but it’s ubiquitous – with dispensaries on nearly every block.

The Thrill-Seeker’s Paradise: Aspen, Colorado

If you want to combine high-octane outdoor activities with cannabis (ideally at separate times of the day – stay safe out there, people!), then Aspen is your place. A world-class destination for skiing, hiking and mountaineering, the city falls under Colorado’s cannabis legalization.

The Classic Option: Amsterdam, Netherlands

A couple of decades ago, this was the place for cannabis-minded travelers. And despite a slate of new countries and states legalizing cannabis, Amsterdam remains a classic option for bud lovers. The “coffee shop” culture here is funky, idiosyncratic and fun. No, cannabis isn’t legal per se (it never has been), but it’s decriminalized and accepted enough that you will never have problems.

Don’t forget to get travel insurance for your trip—get coverage for:
• Medical emergencies
• Stolen or lost goods
• Canceled flights and more
I’ve been using VISITORS COVERAGE for years and highly recommend it!

The OG: Montego Bay, Jamaica

Thanks to Jamaica’s widespread Rastafarianism – a religion that regards cannabis as sacred – the plant enjoys special exemptions on the Caribbean island. Possession of up to two ounces is decriminalized for ordinary citizens and tourists, while Rastafarians may possess an unlimited amount. Enjoy the swaying palms and white sand beaches of Montego Bay as you partake in some relaxing ganja

In addition to their lax approach to cannabis, these destinations were hand-picked because they’re fabulous vacation spots in their own right.

The “For a Limited Time Only” Spot: Bangkok, Thailand

Thailand announced a full recreational legalization of cannabis in 2018, making it the first Asian country to accept the practice. However, per Reuters, that’s all coming to a close at the end of 2024, as the government will revert to a “legal medicinal cannabis” model thereafter. That means you have roughly six months to enjoy the beaches, food, culture, and nightlife of Thailand with a stash of cannabis in your backpack.

The Beach Destination: Cancun, Mexico

While Montego Bay and Thailand boast several fantastic beaches, you can’t beat Cancun. Its pristine coasts have been pulling in tourists for decades. And like the rest of Mexico, the destination has a lax, fully legal approach to cannabis. Cannabis isn’t easy to come by, mind you – at least not in the form of legitimate-looking storefronts – but it is there.

Enjoy these cannabis-friendly destinations for your next relaxing trip abroad. Remember to do your research, remain respectful, and store your cannabis properly with a moisture control pack.
