6 Tips for Traveling to Europe

Bring Comfortable Shoes

In Europe, people are known for walking all over the place.  While there is no shortage of public transportation or cars, it’s simply a way of life to walk more than the average American.  You will find that you are walking much more than back at home on a daily basis during your trip.

Therefore, you will want to make sure that you pack shoes which are comfortable enough to walk in all day long.  Otherwise, you run the risk of injuring yourself or burning out quickly.

Try to opt for shoes which are light and won’t be too bulky.

Additionally, you’ll want to make sure that they are versatile with a wide range of different styles.

Pack Lightly

When planning a trip abroad, you may be tempted to want to pack everything you could ever possibly need.  However, all that this will do is potentially increase your baggage cost with the airline, and cause you to be burdened by lugging a heavy bag around during all of your connections.

Since most people don’t go to Europe and stay in just one place, you will be exploring a lot of different cities.  This means having to carry your bag to each new destination.

If your bag is too heavy or uncomfortable, it’s going to put a damper on your experience.

Avoid Eating In Big Tourist Areas

While it may be tempting to want to enjoy a croissant below the Eiffel tower or drink a cappuccino in the main piazza of Venice, you’ll find that you may end up paying exorbitant prices for something which would cost a fraction of the price elsewhere.

If you are on a budget, like most people, then you should try to avoid eating and drinking in dense tourist spots.

Always Keep Your Belongings Close To You

It may seem harmless to put your bag on a table or place your luggage across from where you are sitting on the train, however it’s important to stay vigilant while traveling.

The best thing that you can do for yourself is trying to keep your belongings close and eliminate the risk of theft.

Check Your Visa Restrictions

Not all European countries have the same visa restrictions and not because you got into one, it means that you can get into all of them. So, as you do your research for the trip make sure to check on the paperwork that you might need and what rules apply to people with your passport.

Usually, the European Union is pretty standard when it comes to these things, but you never know.

Don’t Plan Too Many Adventures around Mid-day

One thing I noticed while traveling in Europe, mostly away from the big cities, is that things tend to be closed at “nap time” which is noon to around 2 or 3 pm. People in towns tend to take things slower and appreciate having a moment in the middle of the day to eat peacefully and even get a quick nap before going about their day.

So don’t plan to do may things around this time unless you have asked ahead of time.
