Thinking of heading away for a caravan park holiday? It’s certainly a great option for anyone looking to experience a real slice of the UK countryside on their next getaway – and much less hassle than dealing with a tent!
Whether you’re new to last minute caravan holidays or have stayed in one plenty of times before, here are our top tips for making sure that you get the most out of your trip.

Pick the right destination
There are so many options when it comes to picking a caravan holiday park in the UK, whether you’re looking for a coastal adventure or a countryside retreat. Think carefully about what sort of holiday you want before you start to narrow down your options and pick out your destination.
It’s always a good idea to research the areas and what activities or attractions they have to offer before booking. Overplanning your holiday is a trap, but make sure to pick out at least a few things that you want to add to your itinerary to ensure that where you’re heading is the right destination for you.
If you’re bringing along pets or family, take them into consideration when looking at destinations, too, as some are better suited to dog or family holidays than others.
Embrace the great outdoors
Wherever in the UK you’re heading, you certainly aren’t going there just to sit in your accommodation all day. There is so much natural beauty to explore and appreciate in any of the UK’s regions, you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice.
Plan to go for walks to enjoy the landscape – maybe even on the beach if there’s ones nearby – or even just take the time to chill outside your caravan and soak in the views.

Be prepared for the great British weather
As much as you may want to spend plenty of time outdoors, the UK weather may not always cooperate with you. Everyone knows just how temperamental the weather can be, turning from sunshine to clouds and rain in the space of an afternoon.
Bring along a waterproof coat, even if it’s summertime, along with footwear that can deal with mud or rainy weather. Packing some layers is also a great idea, as the evenings can get chilly even after a day of warm sun.
Pack smart and light
This is a tip that applies to pretty much any holiday, caravan or not! We all feel the temptation to pack way too much, bringing things just in case we might need them and then never even taking them out of our bags.
So, make sure that you consider everything you’re planning to pack and leave behind the things that you honestly won’t miss. Focus first on all the essentials and then see whether you have space left over for anything extra.
It’s also a good idea to make a list well before you start packing, just so you know that you aren’t going to forget something important in a last-minute scramble to fit things into your bags.
Don’t Know What to Pack?
I’ve been traveling for over 30 years, and know exactly what you need, check out the essential things to pack for a successful trip.
Disconnect and stay connected
Any holiday is an excellent chance to take a break from the increasingly interconnected world, putting down the smartphone and leaving social media apps alone for a while. Even if you want to post plenty of holiday snaps, consider keeping the screen time to a minimum so you can really appreciate the time away.
But if you’re going out for a hike or exploring the area, don’t forget to bring a phone with you just in case you need to make a call or even just check a map!
