Experience Sicilian Art at Complesso Monumentale San Pietro
Set in a beautifully restored sixteenth-century monastery is the civic museum of Marsala. The museum is divided up into three sections and houses an archaeological section as well as some Sicilian folk traditions! This former monastery, restored in 1998, also houses the town library as well, and with over 22,000 books, it’s sure to be a book lovers dream.
Open: 9am – 1pm Tue-Sat, 9am – 1pm and 4.30pm – 7.30pm Sunday
Delve Into Sicilian History When Visiting Museo Archeologico Baglio Anselmi
If you’re going to visit anywhere whilst in Marsala, make sure it’s this! This place houses the town’s finest treasure, the partially reconstructed remains of a warship that sank off the Egadi Islands during the first Punic War. Alongside the ship, some of the remaining cargo is also displayed. The objects discovered on board and now displayed within the museum are olive stones, cooking pots and ropes… amongst others. As of now, the ship is undergoing more restoration work, but is scheduled to reopen in 2017.
