Located in Taiwan’s Southern region, Kenting is a great place to visit if you are looking for a healthy mix of natural and cultural attractions. The area encompasses both the natural wonders of Kenting National Park and several local towns with plenty of interesting tourist attractions. If you’re considering a trip to Taiwan, here are some things to do in Kenting, with many tourist spots that should be part of your itinerary.
Things to Do in Kenting
1 – Enjoy the local parks
Kenting National Park is the oldest national park on the island and it has plenty for tourists to see and do, including caves, amazing beaches, interesting rock formations, exciting hiking trails, and much more.
There is so much to see and do there that if you risk missing some attractions. Luckily tools like the VR interactive map found on this website can make it easier for tourists to see all the key spots and plan their itinerary carefully before the trip. 360 VR photos and videos are an excellent tool to help you figure out what you do and don’t want to see in person, especially if your trip is on a tight schedule.
Besides the importance of planning, it’s also good to remember that Kenting National Park isn’t the only national park in the region. Maobitou Park and Sheding Natural Park are also located in that region and contain plenty of natural wonders of their own.
2 – Visit the beaches
As expected from a coastal region, Kenting contains a variety of stunning beaches that cater to different publics. Wanlingtong and Bai Sha beach are both known for being isolated and for their crystalline waters — they’re great places to enjoy nature, swim, and go snorkelling. Bai Sha Beach — also known as White Sand Beach — is where several scenes from Life of Pi were filmed.
However, if you’re looking to lounge in a beachfront bar or hotel to enjoy some comfort and the local cuisine, there are options for that too. South Bay and Kenting Beach are both busier attractions, and they’re home to several bars and restaurants.
3 – Go snorkelling
If you’re a fan of sea life, Kenting has plenty of attractions for you to feast your eyes upon. Many of the beaches in the region will allow you to explore remarkably-preserved coral reefs in crystalline waters. There is also plenty of exotic sea life to see and learn more about. Wanlingtong and Bai Sha beach are both popular snorkelling locations, and there are plenty of diving tours available as well.
4 – Explore the caves
Caves are one of the many attractions in Kenting National Park. Specifically, you should look for the caves in the Kenting Forest Recreational Area, which is part of the park. That whole region used to be underwater, which led to unique limestone caves and interesting rock formations, including cliffs and narrow canyons.
5 – Visit the cities
Nature isn’t the only attraction in Kenting. The local towns are home to various cultural attractions and sprawling night markets that will give you plenty to see and do after sundown. Both the Hengchun Night Market and the Kenting Night Market are great places to explore the local cuisine.
Hengchun is also the only fortified city in Taiwan that still has its 4 gates intact, some of which are still in use to this day. The entire city is filled with important historical buildings and regions and it’s a great place to learn more about the local culture.
