Captivating Northern Lights are unmissable
Seeing the stunning Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is the stuff of dreams for many people. Charged particles from the sun entering the Earth’s atmosphere create the vibrant colors that shimmer and swirl in the night sky.
Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska, is a favorite destination for campers and hikers because of its wide open spaces, beautiful mountain vistas and abundant wildlife. It is also one of the best places in the US to see the Northern Lights, thanks to the lack of light pollution.
Cook County, Minnesota, along the shores of Lake Superior, offers plenty of outdoor spaces to lie back and watch the lights. The area is home to Minnesota’s tallest mountain peaks and highest waterfall, High Falls, all of which offer a stunning backdrop for the show in the sky.
Aurora sightings are also quite common in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, with many residents able to see the dancing lights from their garden. Visitors should head to Marquette, the major port on Lake Superior, or the Keweenaw Peninsula, the state’s most northerly area. On a clear night, the lights reflect off the largest lake in North America, creating a spectacular show.
