It’s the climax of football season in the United States right now, with the NFL Playoffs and the Super Bowl looming on the horizon. For fans of the teams remaining in the Playoffs, it is a dream to go see their team play in the championship game. But how much does it cost? And how feasible is it for a ‘normal’ person to get there?

Super Bowl LX Details
This season’s Super Bowl is played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. It will be held on Sunday, February 8. The game itself will start at 3.30 local time, making it primetime on the East Coast at 6.30 pm.
The Super Bowl Teams
The Playoffs are ongoing, so we don’t know who will be playing the game yet, but you can click here for DraftKings’ latest Super Bowl odds as the Playoffs continue. The identity of the two teams can impact ticket demand and pricing.
Super Bowl Ticket Cost
This is where it gets rough. You are really looking at a price of at least $4,000 per ticket on the secondary market, and that’s not for a good seat. You could easily pay double that, and more for hospitality. Fans with membership to specific NFL teams can get them cheaper via lottery systems, but the majority of tickets going on resale sites are going to go for thousands of dollars.
Price Surges for the Super Bowl
It’s common to see price surges for Super Bowl trips, covering everything from flights to hotels to the cost of a beer and a hotdog in the stadium. Airlines will add extra capacity, for instance, but a premium is still usually added to plane fares. Last year, for example, the Super Bowl was held in New Orleans, and flights from Kansas City and Philadelphia – the cities of the two competing teams, the Chiefs and the Eagles – more than doubled.
Santa Clara as a Destination
Levi’s Stadium is the home of the San Francisco 49ers, but the venue isn’t exactly in Frisco. It’s about an hour’s drive from San Francisco, and it’s actually a bit closer to San Jose. Santa Clara has plenty to offer tourists, even if you aren’t a football fan. There are nice restaurants, shopping malls and historic architecture, and there are several museums, including some that celebrate the region’s technology legacy, such as the Intel Museum.
Santa Clara Weather
Unfortunately, California isn’t sunny all year round, and the Bay Area can be quite chilly in February. The conditions won’t be just as bad as the Northern US, but, you know, you’ll have to bring a coat.
Before and After
People tend to talk about the Super Bowl as a weekend rather than a single event or day, so there will be plenty of special events on in and around Santa Clara over that weekend in February. If you are a football fan, it’s worth remembering that the NFL will put on a whole week of events before the big game. You can check out more of what’s happening here. Note that hotel pricing does tend to spike in the days before and after the game, so it’s not just limited to Super Bowl Sunday itself.
Is It Worth It?
A Super Bowl trip is likely to run into several thousand dollars, perhaps as much as a long vacation somewhere like Fiji or a trip around Europe. Thus, it is up to the individual as to whether it’s worth paying for. Keen football fans will, of course, think it’s worth the money, and the status of the game also appeals to non-football fans who want an “I was there moment.” Nonetheless, it’s not something you can really do on the cheap anymore, so it’s a case of deciding what the biggest game in sports means to you.
