3 Ways to Preserve Your Travel Memories

When you travel you end up having some of the most exciting times in your life, so it makes sense that you’d want to preserve those memories and really hold onto them. Here are just 3 of the best ways that you can go about doing this.

Open travel journal with photos, pen, and badges reading “Travel more” and “Life is a journey.”
A travel journal helps organize daily highlights while memories are still fresh.

Digital/ social media

Pretty much everything we do is online these days so it makes sense that your travel memories would be the same. If you choose to store your photos digitally then be sure to back up copies to a hard drive or cloud storage so that they’re kept safe if your devices end up failing on you.

If you’re doing lots of travel like a gap year or travelling the world, or if you just travel a lot then setting up a social media account that’s dedicated to this can be a good idea. Friends and family that are interested in keeping up with you can follow on there and you have everything in one place.

You can also use it to connect with other travellers, and you might even be able to get sponsors and make some money from it too. Things like Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube all give you these sorts of opportunities. It’s also worth knowing that creating a tidy collage of trekking photos is easy in a digital dot grid notebook. This is a modern twist on the traditional pen and paper, the dot grid layout consists of tiny dots evenly spaced apart which are ideal as a guide for writing, doodling and sketching.

Physical photos

When you have digital photo storage it doesnt make sense to print off the many thousands of travel pictures you probably have. But it’s definitely worth printing off the very best ones.

Create yourself some incredible albums and photo books, have your favourites made into canvas prints, mugs, keyrings, anything you’ll enjoy using and looking at!

Scrapbooking and crafts

Finally scrapbooking is another great option as well as photos you can store all kinds of extra things. Your special tickets, receipts, any other bits and bobs you collect along the way on your travels. You could press a flower from a special place you went to or add a tiny shell to one of the pages, it can be fun to get creative with it and you have the extra items to bring the pictures to life.

You don’t have to scrapbook in a traditional ‘book’ either, if you have bigger or bulkier items one idea is to use a box frame. They sell them cheaply in ikea and there’s space behind the glass to add things along with a photo or collage so you can create a brilliant keepsake for your trip. Other crafts could be things like using sea glass to decorate a candle holder or glueing shells to a lamp base, there are loads of great ideas on Pinterest.
