Climbing Competition Preparation – What You Need to Know and Focus On

Physical  Preparation – Focusing on Skill and Body

Taking into account that you have done the training and prep work, and are prepared to kill it at the comp. If not, don’t even think you’ll be getting a podium, so this part is a given.

However, there are other things that need to be done, which you have full control over before the actual competition.

You can’t do well in a competition if you are tired. No staying up late, no partying, no nothing that will keep you from getting optimum sleep. You need to get good sleep and rest your body.

It is important to stop training about 3 to 4 days before the competition to get your shoulders rested and regenerate the muscle and skin. Make sure that the last few days of training are soft.

And you need to stretch every day to relax your muscles.

Mental Preparation – 80% of What We Do Is All In the Mind

All of the best athletes in the world can confirm that visualization is a huge component to their success.

It is important to visualize things like being on the podium, topping a route, doing a hard move and etc…

Writing your goals. I do this every single night.

This is good to do because if you don’t have a goal than there is no point of going.

Goals for a climbing competition can be like topping three routes, making finals, getting podium, getting top 10 and etc…

During the competition there is usually music and screaming and crowds but you need to ignore that and focus on your climb. On the goal!

One week before you almost completely stop eating protein. And load up on carbs!
