Plettenberg Bay

Natural paradise in South Africa

The beautiful and highly diverse nature of this pearl in South Africa forms a symbiosis with the Indian Ocean that captivates active vacationers. If you prefer to dive underwater instead of on the water, you will find fantastic underwater landscapes at the fabulous coral reefs in Plettenberg Bay. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can visit a lagoon on the headland in the Robberg Nature Reserve and take a more relaxed approach to everyday life. Wildlife loves the outdoors at this Garden of Eden just as much as we do. Plettenberg Bay is known for its wildlife parks, zoos, and safaris, where you can see plenty of exotic animals.

Highlights in Plettenberg Bay

Even if the name suggests it, but Plettenberg Bay is more than just a bay. It stretches along the highly touristic Garden Route and is located at its eastern point. Attractions are truly abundant, and a hotel in Plettenberg Bay is the perfect place to observe the scene. Here we want to introduce you to six major attractions at Plettenberg Bay, that you shouldn’t miss:

Beaches in Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay offers ten extensive beaches, which also impress with their dimension. One tip is Keurboom Beach, which is named after the Keur tree that grows here. Nearby flows the Keurboom River, which provides exciting contrasts, as do the adjacent forest and gigantic dunes. The area is embedded in the Keurboom Nature Park and is home to numerous hiking trails.

Whale watching

One of the highlights of beach life is that dolphins, seals, and whales can be seen time and time again – no wonder since there was a whaling station at the bay until 1920. Today, the gentle giants are allowed to circle peacefully, and guided tours are offered for observation purposes.

Eldorado for adrenaline junkies

Plettenberg Bay attracts extreme sports enthusiasts. For example, how about parachute jumps from lofty heights or experiencing the high altitude rush on the zip line, and paragliding? In addition, the 216-meter-high Bloukrans Bridge is home to the highest bungee jumping facility in the world.

Animals, Wildlife & Safari

At Plettenberg Bay, there are several exceptional hunting grounds for exotic animals, one more exciting than the other. First, the Elephant Sanctuary allows close contact with elephants, and the good-natured pachyderms can be fed and petted under expert guidance. On Monkey Island, on the other hand, monkeys play the leading role.

Eighteen species live here, including eleven species in complete freedom. Monkey Island was the first public reserve for monkeys that did not erect barriers between visitors and (some) monkey species. Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Center is dedicated to big cat care and allows walking with cheetahs. Finally, the Birds of Eden offers an entry into a happily chirping colorful bird world that melts everyone’s heart.

Water sports and golf

Plettenberg Bay has much to offer, especially for water sports enthusiasts. The bay is a hotspot for surfers, while others prefer getting around by boat, canoe, kayak, and catamaran. Finally, the region is famous for its magnificent golf courses, where the beautiful sea view is part of the program.
