Travel Blog Into A Business

The fact is, many people are interested in travel, which means you can quickly turn your travel blog into a business. It’s all about understanding how to get more readers, and deciding what you want to sell. Here’s how.

1 Research your audience

The first thing you need to do with any blog you want to make money from is to understand who your readers are. That’s how you’ll know what to write about to attract more readers and what products to sell if you end up creating a partnership with a travel products business. The fact is, any business online needs to know what their buyer persona is.

According to HubSpot, “A buyer persona is a semi-fictional representation of your ideal customer based on market research and real data about your existing customers. When creating your buyer persona(s), consider including customer demographics, behavior patterns, motivations, and goals. The more detailed you are, the better…A detailed buyer persona will help you determine where to focus your time, guide product development, and allow for alignment across the organization.”

You might have somewhat of an idea of your buyer persona already, but know that you’re becoming a full-fledged business leader, you need to send out surveys and conduct analytics research to learn even more. Think about it: 65 percent of companies exceeding lead and revenue goals have updated personas within the last six months, which means that it’s this research that makes a difference.

2 Get on social media

Once you know who your audience is, one of the most important things you’ll learn about them is where they spend the majority of their time online. For example, if you mainly write about what it’s like to be a digital nomad and run a business from anywhere in the world, then you can connect with other digital nomads on Facebook and Instagram. But if you’re specifically writing about how to make it in the cryptocurrency investment world while traveling, then you might want to post more on Reddit and LinkedIn.

Especially if you’re looking to attract a younger crowd, like Gen Zers or millennials, it’s not only posting on social media that matters, but engaging, too. According to social media guru Deep Patel, “Gen Zers are the first generation that has never known life without easy Internet access…they recognize the value of their attention. They don’t sit through ads. They don’t give heavily sponsored content the time of day. What they’re looking for is value.”

That means, creating fun stories on apps like Instagram and Snapchat, and allowing your fans to become a part of your blog. For example, you can invite other travelers you “meet” online to write guest posts for you, which they’ll then share with their friends. Considering that one in five Gen Zers say that Snapchat influences their purchasing decisions, this can be a great way for you to make money if you start selling ebooks or ESL lessons on your blog.

3 Make your content amazing

Finally, you need your content to be awesome. That may sound obvious to say, but many bloggers think that by merely writing about interesting topics–and slipping in the right keywords–the entirety of the Internet will flock to their site. The fact is, no matter what you’re selling on your blog, whether it’s ad space or travel shoes, you need a reason to keep your readers coming back for more. This is why you need to give them quality content once you’ve researched what your readers want and where you can reach them.

Additionally, don’t write “fluff” articles. Instead, research thoroughly, and give real advice in long-form articles. An added benefit to longer articles, too, is that you can use more keywords without sounding awkward. According to welove2blog4you.com, “The longer your post, the more keywords [are] used. If you only write 200 words, it’s going to be very hard to use keywords in any quantity in a natural way. But if you write 1500 + words, your blog post is going to contain plenty of material for Google to analysis for relevancy.”

Since Google holds 80.5 percent of the total search engine market share, this can make a huge difference in getting more people to visit your blog.

Once you’ve researched your readers and drawn them in with your awesome content, you’re ready for your blog to become a business. Whether you choose to run affiliate ads or offer consulting services for Americans looking to live in the countries you’ve visited, your travel blog will soon be the business you’ve always dreamed.
