The Historical Facts and Early Pioneers, Explorers:
The name Langtang is derived from the Tibetan language, used by the native Tamang tribes of Rasuwa district and Langtang regions. This means following the ox or yaks, the upper Langtang Valley due to its vast wide field. It was the prime grazing area for the local yaks, cattle, and horses, which still exists. In the past centuries, the Langtang Himal region remained unknown and mysterious to the outside world. Bill Tillman explored in 1949, following Tilman, and then came Toni Hagen in 1952. Both ventured around the higher Langtang high valley and glaciers,
probing for routes to Tibet. At present Langtang Valley is the third popular trekking destination in Nepal after the Annapurna and Everest regions.
