As the modern iteration of smoking cigarettes, New Yorkers have turned to the popular alternative of vaping. Vapes are increasingly popular today, with local companies and nationwide businesses such as West Coast Vape Supply providing easy access to vapes of all kinds. It is believed that around 10.6% of adults aged 18 to 24 are using e-cigarettes, or vapes, regularly. However, other groups regularly have turned to using e-vapes, with around 10.2% of traditional cigarette smokers also turning to e-vapes instead, per the New York State Department of Health

That rise in usage is not a surprise. E-cigarettes have become the go-to alternative for many Americans who are looking for a ‘cleaner’ alternative to smoking cigarettes. For many reasons, electronic cigarettes have maintained a steady popularity among the New York public. As we can all agree, New York is a pretty stressful place to live! As such, people need some stress release.

For many, the ‘vice’ of smoking cigarettes and all of the associated health challenges was a common crutch to use. The pace of life in New York could be slowed down ever so slightly with a cigarette. With more people in the younger generation not keen to take on the health damage that smoking causes, vaping has become a common alternative.

However, with more discussion still ongoing about regulation and the potential health risks associated with vaping, some experts believe that vaping numbers will drop in the coming years. As more vaping studies come out to show the potential drawbacks emerge, the data-heavy and the news-friendly new generation are less likely to take any risks with the quality of their life.

What About Other Forms Of Smoking?

Smoking is one of the most common habits that someone in New York can pick up. However, one form of smoking that became legalized in 2022 was that of cannabis. Today, locals can visit local dispensaries and buy products from state-approved dispensaries. However, it is expected that in the coming years, New Yorkers will be able to invest in products from nationwide service providers such as SuperStrain.

The rules around cannabis consumption in America have changed greatly in the last few years. The last decade especially has seen many more states become open-minded about both medical marijuana and recreational usage. Adults aged 21 and above are allowed to possess as much as 85g of cannabis without issue. They can also cultivate three ‘mature’ and three ‘immature’ plants at home. This is a wholesale change to the laws that existed until recently.

Since studies took place in 2018 to try and focus on the benefits of legalization, things have changed dramatically in New York. Now, one of the most popular cities in the world permits legal usage of one of the most popular herbal products on the planet.

Vaping might eventually cause some issues with regard to legality and regulation. Cannabis, though, has been through the regulatory mill to reach this point: expect New Yorkers to fight tooth and nail to keep this relatively new legalization present for as long as possible.

Though the number of smokers in New York fell to around 12% in 2020, over that number – 12.8% – of adults aged 18 and above have admitted to using cannabis in the last 30 days. As one number tumbles, another rises. What does that mean for New York? It is hard to say. What we do know, though, is that legalization laws have been accepted with enthusiasm by the city population.
