4 Of The Best Christmas Destinations from Around the World

German City Break

If anyone knows how to do Christmas, it’s the Germans. Their Christmas markets have been popping up all over the world for decades now, and feature stunning street food, performers, mulled wine, festive music, and a general happy atmosphere that’s hard to explain. So, if your local German Christmas market is the best thing about your Christmas, then why not experience the real thing?

It makes sense, doesn’t it? Germany has some beautiful cities anyway, perfect for a romantic getaway, but when the buildings are all dressed up and there’s snow on the ground, there isn’t much else like it on the planet (except maybe Austria…)

The French Alps as a Christmas Destinations

If a city break isn’t your ‘bag’ and you’d rather head off to a resort with bars and hot tubs and spas and roaring fires, then a ski resort on the French Alps is most definitely for you. It doesn’t even have to be the French Alps (I just picked them because I like French food…); it could be Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Bavaria, etc. Skiing isn’t cheap, so make sure you check out sites such as iGOSki to see if there are any Christmas deals going and once you get there you can spend the day working up a sweat as you shred up the mountain, before heading to the bar to warm away the snow by a log fire as you sip/guzzle a traditional French red wine and listen to a local band play in some melodious tune in the corner.

Lapland as a Christmas Destinations

If you’re looking to get away from a home Christmas with children, then there is only one destination you could possibly consider: Lapland. Lapland is the northernmost region of Finland and is the center of Christmas on Earth. The supposed home of Santa Claus and his elves and reindeer, this is where you come if, like many parents, you believe that the best thing about the Christmas period is the excitement of the children. Take your kids here and you will officially be up for ‘best parent of the year award’.

Australia Beach Holiday as a Christmas Destinations

This is for the people who are well and truly fed up with the whole snow and cold thing that Christmas has going on. Getting up and leaving the entire winter behind and going down under to a place that seems to be perpetually summer. Christmas in Australia is the antithesis of Christmas in Europe and America. Instead of a lavish Turkey dinner, you more likely to get a BBQ on the beach; instead of snuggling up warm with a movie or book in front of a roaring fire, you’ll be lounging on a beach watching paddlers and surfer dudes. Heaven for some.
