The Peneda-Geres Park, for instance, is a great location for off-road adventures. It is also the only National Park in Portugal, and a protected area. Getting there is pretty easy, so you should make sure you put it on your to-do list while vacationing in the Portugal. Start your jeep drive from Campo do Geres, the town between the Cavado and Homem rivers, and make sure you stop at the Lindoso Dam. When the water accumulation is low, you can get to the abandoned village of Vilarinho das Furnas, which was drowned back in the 1970, in order to fill the reservoir. Head northwest from Serra do Geres to visit the Benedictine monastery dating back from the 9th century. You’ll find it in the nearby village, so there’s nothing to worry about.
