Guide to Cabin Vacations

A Home Away from Home

Perhaps the biggest draw about staying in a cabin while on vacation is that it truly can offer that home away from home vibe. The fact that you have your very own cabin instead of sharing walls with other guests, allows you to settle in and feel like you’ve got that private space.

As you look into different styles of cabins, you will quickly find that many are spacious in that they offer multiple bedrooms. Take for instance the cabins available at Birch Forest Lodge in Minnesota, which offers some cabins with up to three bedrooms. This can be ideal when you are traveling with a group and/or kids. People will have their own space to stretch out and relax.

Questions You’ll Want to Ask

Before you go ahead and book your cabin rental, there are some questions you should ask. These will help you prepare as far as packing goes, and ensure that you book the kind of cabin that works for you.

First off, you’ll want to ask about what the cabin is equipped with. You will need to know if bedding, linens, kitchen utensils and tools, etc. are included in the rental. Each place is different and you don’t want to show up without the supplies you need.

Typically, there are different cabins to choose from on the property and each one may have a different configuration and layout. It’s a good idea to look at all the different options so you can pick one that offers enough space and a layout that you like.

You may want to ask about how many cabins are on the property and how close together they are. If you are looking for a remote experience, you may want to look for something that is really spaced out, so much so that you can’t see the other rentals.

Ask about amenities. Just like hotels and resorts, cabins can offer amenities too. The property may offer a beach, access to boats, a swimming pool, a store, a gym, etc. If you plan on taking part in outdoor activities you will want to ask about available hiking trails, fishing opportunities, skiing, water sports, and so forth.

Budget is of course a big factor in any vacation planning, and cabins tend to fluctuate in pricing throughout the year. If you research the options far enough in advance, you’ll be able to pick the best pricing for your budget.

Get as Much Information as Possible

Ideally you want to start researching and looking into cabin rentals a few months before your vacation. This gives you a chance to look over the different options and pick the best one for you and your family/friends.

  1. It’s been some time since my wife and I have rented a cabin. Now that we are retired with the mountains of North Georgia not too far away, this sounds like it would be fun. The questions you will want to ask is helpful. It would be unpleasant to arrive at the cabin and find out some things were not provided, especially like linens or a pillow. I do like picking the time to go in a should season which should be less busy and also cheaper time to rent a cabin.
