Four Fantastic Reasons To Visit Fiji
Visit Fiji For Their People
Fiji’s total population is smaller than most major global cities, at just over 900,000 people total spread out over 332 islands. The highest population resides on Viti Levu, the largest of the islands in the archipelago. The majority live in two areas, Suva, the capital and business center, and Nadi, the tourism and exit and entry point for international travel.
Population densities and locations don’t describe who the people of Fiji are. You will be hard-pressed to find a more open and welcoming people group in the world. No matter where you are from, as soon as you arrive, you’ll get your first “Bula” and the blazing smile that goes with it. From then on, it seems like Disney World, that everyone from the little boy on the corner to the senior woman at the bus stop is in on this tourist trick. The trick is they’re not. You will be amazed at the sincerity of each and every one because each and every one is sincere.
The Islands
From the moment you step off your jet, Fiji fills your senses. The air, the birds, the mountains, the green, the people all combine to smack you in the head with the realization you are somewhere really different. Fiji is gloriously diverse, from crystal blue waters to deep rain forest jungle. The Lofty cloud covered mountains shoulder arid coastlines as you work your way around Viti Levu. Each island is a diverse combination of micro climates and stunning views in a compact, easily traversed area.
The Water
These are islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. There’s a lot of water around Fiji, and where it is accessible, it is amazing. The warm waters of Fiji are host to an incredibly diverse selection of sea life. On the outer islands, you can experience Fiji class diving to see some of the most beautiful coral bed anywhere.
The Surf off of Nadi is listed as one of the best breaks in the world and is home to one of the greatest surf competitions of the year. Ripping swells develop deep in the Antarctic Ocean and barrel towards the reefs of Fiji. On the perfect break called Cloud breaks, the mighty swells meet land in towering, crashing tunnels. Riders who dare to ride these giants risk their lives over the back and body shredding coral inches below them.
Visit Fiji Because Easy Access
Fiji is just a flight away. Flight times to Fiji are a quick 5 hours from Australia and 3 hours from New Zealand. LA is a little tougher with a 10-hour flight, scheduled as an overnight, so settle in and sleep through it. The international airport is in the city of Nadi. Nadi is the jumping off the point for many of the other islands. A quick shuttle to Denarau Island, enjoy a stay in one of the major storefront hotels to freshen up, and catch a quick ferry to your final island destination.
