Costa Rican Cabbage Salad
Costa Ricans love this salad. The proof is that you will find it as a side dish for almost everything they serve. I must say that I had a completely different idea of what a cabbage salad is, but this quickly became my favorite.
Another thing I noticed is that instead of putting good ole fashion sour kraut on their hot dogs, they put this salad with guacamole, ketchup, and mayo. It is delicious!
If you’re traveling to Costa Rica, you definitely should try this Costa Rican cabbage salad, it’s delicious as many of the Costa Rican cuisine.
Here is the Costa Rican Cabbage Salad Recipe that I learned:
INGREDIENTS
Half a head of shredded cabbage
2 shredded carrots
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 lemons
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
SUPPLIES
Knife
Cutting board
Mixing bowl
Cook It Up!
Place the shredded cabbage and carrots in the bowl, add the salt, pepper and olive oil. Before mixing it all together, squeeze all the juice out of the lemon. And viola! You’ve got yourself a tasty side salad.
It is that easy. If you are worried about any bacteria run the cabbage and carrot through boiling water.
You can also replace half of the lemon with a bit of apple vinegar.
Serve it Up!
Like I said, Ticos serve this with almost everything. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. You decide with what you’d like to eat a little bit of cabbage with!
