Our first introduction to Atlanta eateries was a burger joint. Or so I thought. I’m a huge planner. I can’t go traveling unless I know exactly what is reserved and confirmed. My planning and organizing of the trip, to me, is as much fun as the actual trip – so even though it sounds banal, it’s one of my passions. That’s how I end up going to Flip Burger Boutique in Atlanta, and here’s my full experience and review.
Georgia was our chosen State for this year’s romantic getaway. Our new thing, when visiting my parents in Florida over the holidays, is that we leave the kids for several days with the grandparents while my hubby and I get away and have some big people conversations. This includes enjoying dining experiences for more than one hour and staying in hotels that cater to adults rather than families.
My husband is a big burger lover. I like them, but in all honesty, can take them or leave them.
So when I started doing research, one particular burger joint kept on popping up for being totally unique and innovative. Not exactly what I would think of when I think of burgers, but sounds intriguing.
So our first night in Atlanta was reserved for Flip Burger Boutique.

Why Flip Burger Boutique is Way, WAY More Than a Burger Place
OK, so I normally don’t get pulled in to when the staff is overly friendly, but we had the pleasure of hanging out with Steve, the general manager, and I think he needs to be part of the menu special – a night with Steve.
First of all, the man knows his burgers and fries – but not in a way that you think (check out the video to learn what Steve knows). Second of all, he was so entertaining and fun that he truly made our night! (Secret is – we arrived pretty late and there weren’t too many people, so he had a chance to chat longer with us.)
Now on to the food! Because one thing is for sure, this is not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill burger place. As a matter of fact, forget all you know about burgers and milkshakes and come with an open mind and an empty tummy.
Flip Burger Milkshakes
After we dropped off our stuff at our Inn, we told the owner we were off to Flip Burger. Her immediate response was, ‘You have to try their milkshakes.’
Why?
Because you will never have milkshakes like these in your life.
My husband got the Krispy Creme milkshake. Krispy Creme is a popular donut chain in the US. So what Flip Burger did was take five Krispy Creme donuts and put them in with their milkshakes.
I can’t even tell you how insanely delicious this was.
I ordered the Nutella and Burnt Marshmallow milkshake. I know, it sounds really funky and a bit scary. But what a drink. The marshmallows are like the roasted ones you eat when camping, so the flavor was strong, topped off with the Nutella.

Burgers
There are soooo many burgers here to try from, that – now that I have eaten here – you have to come back and try them all (so for all those people living in Atlanta or who visit often, make this a place to revisit).
With just my husband and me eating, it was impossible for us to order too many. However, they have a sampler special. You can get three, smaller versions, of the burgers per person. Since Steve told us they are ‘smaller’ we figured we can manage two orders (six burgers in total).
I’m not sure I want to know what the original size of each is, but they were huge.
Flavor
This is where we were truly blown away. The burgers are totally creative, with the freshest meat I have ever tasted. Even when they started to get a little cold, since we couldn’t eat them all so fast, they were still delicious.
Each burger had unique combination toppings: smoked mayo, coca-cola ketchup, rbq sauce, flip sauce (their secret sauce), fresh veggies, avocado puree, soy truffle vinaigrette, all sorts of cheeses and the list goes on and on.
Interestingly enough, we not only finished them all, but made room for the side dishes. Which, in my opinion, were just as impressive as the burgers.
Sides
Again, way too many to choose from. And I love when restaurants offer samplers of their most popular choices. In this case, it was the sampler trio of:
Vodka Battered Onion Rings with beer mustard
Beef Fat Fries with smoked mayo and Coca-Cola Ketchup
Sweet Potato Tots – but instead of the regular dressing, Steve brought us a burnt marshmallow sauce-like thing to dip them into. It was out of this world.
So to say the least, this was without a doubt the best burger place we have ever visited. And now I’m worried that I can never eat burgers again – who can top this?
