New York City is great! It is filled with interesting things to do and see. All you need to have a great time is a map and a lot of time to explore the highlights of the city. It is also (believe it or not)a good place to visit for families on a budget.
Don’t believe me? Keep reading to learn how to save on a family vacation to NYC.
Vacations in New York on a Budget:
Accommodations
New York is known for having top luxurious hotels, many of them famous for their high prices. But that is no reason to get alarmed! There are also some less known hotels that are still amazing but not crazy expensive. Add that to the fact that there are sites like hostelbookers offering great budget deals in hotels all over the city. Plus kid friendly hotels are also easy to find in the city.
Things to do
When it comes to things to do, forget about going with budget things, go for the free ones instead! Believe me you can have days of fun with or without kids. A few of the coolest things to do in NYC for free are:
- Central Park
- Times Square
- Staten Island Ferry
- Brooklyn Bridge
Restaurants and food
Just as it happens with the hotels, restaurants in New York are famous around the world. But you can also find tasty food in small restaurants. If you are on the go another cheap option is to stop at one of the many food karts that can be found on the street.
Another way to save is to look for those places where kid’s entrance fees are free. There are lots of them out there!

A few other tips:
– Accommodation: always check more than one site. I always make sure to compare the official prices on the hotel website and the other offers (Expedia, TripAdvisor as well as http://new-york.hotelscheap.org/ (this works for NYC deals only)).
– To do: Let’s not forget the Statue of Liberty.
– Eat: I usually eat once a day at some small restaurant, but I make my own sandwiches for breakfast and lunch.
Thanks for the great tips, I too always check many different sites before committing.
