New York is famous around the world for its thousands of shops, nightlife and restaurants that offer amazing food. What a lot of people don’t know is that New York is a fantastic holiday destination for families too. My recent visit with my boys is proof that small kids can have a great time exploring the Big Apple.
What is it that you want to see?
– Kid friendly museums where everyone can learn by doing
– A tour Around the Island looking at the huge buildings
– Or maybe a day filled with activities at Central Park
Did you say museum? There are over 80 museums in New York! However, for a visit where kids and adults can be entertained you might want to consider the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. It is located on what was one of the most successful ships in the history of the country and has airplanes that you can hop on to, a flight simulator and even a space shuttle pavilion. For something a bit different the American Museum of Natural History has amazing programs and tours special for children and families, so ask for them at the front desk.
If, on the other hand you, prefer a tour around the island you can take a cruise tour with Circle Line. They have been doing it for a long time and it is a great way to see the skyline of the city and to get interesting information without your kids getting tired. Or, if you have older kids you might want to consider a biking tour of the city. This allows you to get up close to the main attractions and you get to ride on a well marked and safe bike path.
Another must visit place for families is Central Park. There are so many fun activities in it, you can do picnics, play games, watch concerts, ice skate (depending on season) among others. You can also take guided tours to learn about its history and a bunch of fun facts.
But, if you are on vacation chances are you have some time in the city so, how about all of them? and keep your eyes open, fun oportunities are hiding in every corner.
