Beautiful lakes and beaches
It is probably fair to see that most visitors really wouldn’t mind paying for some of the amazingly beautiful lakes and beaches that you can enjoy in Whistler.
Lazy summer days appeal to most of us and when you can just relax and soak up some sunshine on a great beach that is by a cool and crystal clear mountain lake, it becomes an even more attractive proposition.
You have the choice of bringing your own picnic or using the onsite BBQ’s and you have the choice of renting canoes, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards if you want to explore, but a relaxing day in the sun is pretty much free if you want it to be.
Choose from venues like Alta Lake, Lost Lake or Alpha Lake. Each venue offers visitors a great day out, with Lost Lake being known as a popular sandy beach and Alpha Lake Park is dog-friendly, so even the pooch gets a free day out.
Free outdoor music
Whistler puts on a series of outdoor summer concerts that are free to attend.
The Olympic Plaza plays host to Whistler Presents which is an outdoor concert series and this includes a number of different diverse concerts that feature acts like the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and rapper, poet and songwriter Michael Franti, but not on the same night of course!
Children’s Festival
The Olympic Plaza also hosts the Whistler Children’s Festival, which runs from July 10-12th in 2015.
It is the longest running festival in the area and offers entertainment, inspiration and education in equal measure with plenty of art workshops, musical performances and lots to see and do in order to keep the kids happy the whole day long.
GO Fest
Another free event that is well worth attending is Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival, aka GO Fest.
There is a regular farmer’s market in Whistler which does not just feature local produce but also features artists and artisans showcasing their talents. The Victoria Day long weekend between May 15th to 18th will see a special early season market, but you will be able to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Upper Village Neighborhood Market throughout the summer months.
It is hard to argue with the general feedback that Whistler has to be considered one of the ultimate summer destinations that you can think of, as it offers the chance to take in breathtaking scenery and enjoy some cultural experiences, some of which won’t cost you anything to enjoy.
