Bocas del Toro is a province from Panama formed by the mainland and nine islands that are in the middle of an archipelago. These islands are one of the places that were discovered by Cristobal Colon on one of his trips.
Some of the things that you can find when you travel to Bocas del Toro are charming colonial buildings, natural treasures hidden among the islands, fantastic Panamanian cusine and gorgeous beaches.
4 Activities To Do When Traveling to Bocas del Toro:
Bastimentos National Marine Park
This marine park of over 13,000 hectares was created in 1988 in the Bastimentos Island, the largest in Panama. It serves as a refuge for coral reefs, mammals, reptiles and birds, but especially to protect the nesting areas of sea turtles.

Snorkeling
The surroundings of the islands on the Bocas del Toro Archipelago are great for snorkeling. In them you can find coral reefs and crystal clear water with almost no waves. Since these are healthy coral reefs you will be able to see tons of different native living creatures. However the Zapatillas Keys are not recommended for beginners or kids because of the large waves and strong winds.
Dolphin Bay Preserve
This is a place dedicated to preserving the environment in which dolphins live. To see these lovely animals, all you have to do is take a short boat ride. Because of the calm waters, bottlenose communities made it their home and a place to raise their young ones. So you might see some moms with their little ones.
NOTE: When you go on one of these tours, do your research and don’t go with companies where the guides chase after them on the boats. This might injure or kill dolphins. The boat should move slowly and be silent so these creatures don’t get scared.
Red Frog Beach
Red Frog Beach is one of the 5 beaches that can be found along the Caribbean coast of the Bastimentos Island. It got its name after the small red, poisonous frogs that can be found in it. The beach is popular because of the surrounding forest and its biodiversity.
