A proud reminder of the country’s storied history, the Al Masmak Fortress is made from a mixture of clay and mud in what was once an important trade city. It was built in 1865 and the landmark has been used for many purposes, from housing the garrisons that once protected the city to an ammunition warehouse and a prison.
