8 Best Places to Visit In Madagascar

The Best Places to Visit in Madagascar you shouldn’t miss!

Madagascar is one of those places on earth that is loaded with natural and ecological beauty. Located off the eastern coast in Africa, it is home to thousands of unique animal and plant species. Due to its diverse nature, it’s called the 8th continent.

Check out Madagascar travel guide for even more fun stuff to do.

Avenue of the Baobabs

Baobabs are huge trees that are up to 98 feet high and 36 feet wide. They can live for almost a thousand years. The unique quality of these trees is their ability to absorb and store water; almost 1000 gallons per tree.

These trees are completely unique to Madagascar. Unfortunately, they are becoming endangered species due to tree chopping. Although these trees can be found throughout the country, the avenue of the baobabs is unique because of the way the trees are lined on the road. If you would like to take photos, the best time to visit is during sunrise and sunset. Watch out, the place is always crowded by using Spectrum internet. When you are at a place so close to nature, there is no need to worry about traveling diseases.

Ifaty

Ifaty is a duo of resorts located on the southwestern edge of the island. It’s famous for luxurious hotel resorts and extravagant beaches with yellow sand. No wonder, Ifaty is always crowded with locals as well as tourists.

Most come to this place for its beaches, sand, sun, and snorkeling in the Indian Ocean. Others come to enjoy the catamaran tours of the Mozambique Channel, taste fish curries, and explore the villages.

Nosy Be

One of the best places to visit in Madagascar is this island, it’s a small but premier tourist spot. This beach is not as picture-perfect as other beaches on the island, but it’s the best point for tranquility, fresh seafood, and clear turquoise water.

Nosy Be’s waters are shallow and protected by coral reefs. They are safe for swimming for families. You can also go scuba diving and snorkeling in these waters. This island is the safest. It’s circled by a ring road, so it’s impossible to lose your way.

Île Sainte Marie

If you are into something cheap, local, and relaxing at the same time, the beaches and resorts of Île Sainte Marie await.

This island is also called Nosy Boraha and is formally owned by a pirate captain. That’s why it is home to a pirate graveyard, little coves, seafood, and a laid-back Caribbean-like atmosphere.

Its beaches aren’t as mesmerizing as Nosy Be’s, but they are peaceful and beautiful. If you are here between July and September, do avail the opportunity of whale watching. This is the time of the year when humpback whales come for breeding.

Toliara

There is a small port town on the west coast, called Toliara. Most ex-pats live here and they love its pizza. There is nothing much to do here except for going on the Great Reef offshore diving excursion. But if you like to sit by the beach, it’s a peaceful place to be at.

Morondava

Morondava is a seaside spot home to beautiful little timber homes and guesthouses. This place gives a backpacker vibe.

It’s another ideal spot for relaxing. It’s less crowded, and you won’t see many beggars either. It was cheap as well. Common activities to do here include going on a trip to the fishing village of Belo Sur Mer and exploring the Kirindy wildlife park. Also, know about the evergreen city of India

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park

Want to see lemurs live? Then you have got to be at the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park located in the east of Madagascar. It is home to 11 species of lemur, including the Indri (the largest lemur in the country).

This park is split into two areas – Analamazoatra Reserve and Mantadia National Park. 1 to 6-hour tours of the park and reserve are also available.

Ranomafana National Park

Another wonderful national park in Madagascar is the Ranomafana National Park. It’s home to the best scenic beauty there is, especially the streams splashing through forested hills.

You will also meet the endangered golden bamboo lemur. This animal eats bamboo shoots containing cyanide, which is lethal to other animals. It’s amazing how it can survive on it!

It’s said that if you have come to Madagascar once, this island will attract you again and again because of its tranquility. Have a great time while you’re here!
