Are you thinking about getting a second home in another country? A lot of people do as they can use it for work purposes (if they have a business that operates in different countries) or they can use it as a holiday home and then rent it out when they are not there.
Choosing where you would like your second home is a big decision, considering the world is huge and there are so many places to choose. What it comes down to is your interests and what there is to do in the area. Portugal has many wonderful cities, whereas the Caribbean is known for its stunning beaches. Then there are also the entry requirements, such as needing EU Residency for Americans if you are moving to Portugal.
Below we have put together a brief guide on three countries to consider when wanting a second home. Keep on reading to discover more and maybe one of these places will be where you decide to locate a few times a year.

Portugal
Somewhere where we know a lot of people like their second homes is Portugal. Portugal is a wonderful place to be, with so much to see and do. One minute you can be near a major city, the next a wonderful beach.
Lisbon and Porto offer vibrant city living, while the Algarve is perfect for those craving sunshine and sea views.
It will come as no surprise that Portugal is one of the more popular places people look at when considering a second home. If you haven’t been to Portugal before, there are many affordable getaways, which you could try out before committing to a second home.
Caribbean

If your idea of a second home involves turquoise waters, white-sand beaches and a slower pace of life, the Caribbean delivers in every sense.
There are so many things to do in Antigua and Barbuda whilst The Bahamas is arguably as glamorous as the US (some would say more beautiful.
You have to mention Barbados as well, which is effortlessly luxurious with a British feel. From polished beachfront villas to world-class dining and golf, Barbados strikes that perfect balance between comfort and Caribbean charm.
Dubai

If you’re after something more contemporary, Dubai offers a completely different proposition. Known for its striking skyline and ultra-modern lifestyle, Dubai has become a global hotspot for second-home buyers – although it’s not the most affordable option when compared to other countries.
But that being said, its biggest draw is tax efficiency – there’s no income tax on rental earnings, which can make it particularly attractive from an investment perspective. Areas like the Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina are especially popular, offering luxury living with impressive rental yields.
Where do you currently think you would like your second home and why? Out of Portugal, the Caribbean and Dubai, where would you prefer your second home to be? Are there places we haven’t mentioned which you think deserves a mention? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
