Balsamo Coast to Suchitoto the Unknown Secret of El Salvador

El Salvador is one of the tiniest Central American countries. But don’t let its size fool you! Within such a small territory it has tons of things to offer to its visitors like beaches, jungles, volcanoes, lakes, and colonial towns. Also, because of its size it is perfect for driving. A road trip in El Salvador provides short drives, great views and a lot of fun.

A good route to go through is one that takes you from its famous beaches to a small, traditional town plus it can be done in only one day (I would recommend taking at least one-two days in each of the places to enjoy).

Road Trip from Balsamo Coast to Suchitoto

El Balsamo Coast is a strip of land that runs for 16 miles and goes over La Libertad, Playa Tunco, Playa Sunzal and Playa El Zonte. These are some of the best beaches in El Salvador, they all are black sanded and are famous among surfers for the great surf breaks.

Surf lessons are being offered everywhere. For the travelers that are not interested in surfing, there are also activities such as horseback riding, hiking, fishing and swimming available.

Once you have taken enough time to explore Balsamo Coast hop in the car and get going towards Suchitoto. It will take you about two hours through Troncal del Norte highway.

Suchitoto is a small, cute, colonial-style town located right next to Suchitlan Lake. The place has a very relaxed vibe, great views of the lake as well as of the surrounding mountains. Here you can walk along the town, looking at the colonial architecture and enjoying the friendly locals.

The town is also worth checking out, and then you can hang out at the park to see and learn about the local’s daily life. Once you have explored the town fully head over to the lake. You can take boat tours on it and explore the visitor’s center.
