A Family Adventure To The Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica

There are many stories about how remote yet interesting the Osa Peninsula is. Articles on the internet assure that it was a great place for adventurers. Since I’m always looking for new and fun things to do with my family, so my husband and I decided to head off to the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica for a short outdoor vacation.

After doing a lot of research, we decided that we were going to get there by Nature Air. This is something that some friends recommended to us. Nature air is an ecological airline here in Costa Rica.

At first, I was a bit worried about flying in these small prop planes, but when I brought myself to look out the window, I relaxed and started to enjoy the view. It was simply gorgeous! I worried again at the time of landing. The runway was extremely small, and the airport was tiny. But our pilot was skillful and nothing bad happened.

The rest of the trip was a great adventure. First, we jumped on the back of a pickup truck and after a long ride of bouncing up and down a dirt road that took around 40 minutes, we found the place we were staying in, I have a post with amazing places to stay in Osa Peninsula, make sure you read it.

We finally made it to our accommodations to find out that it was just steps away from the beach but away from the main town of Puerto Jimenez. The place is so remote that this was a great opportunity for us to relax and forget about the rest of the world.

We got settled into our cabin, enjoyed the gorgeous surroundings, and decided that the next day was going to be an adventurous one.

Soon after we got there, we decided to visit the Corcovado National Park. The National Geographic calls Corcovado National Park is the “most biologically intense place on Earth”. Can you imagine such a place? It is one of the most densely populated forests. There are hundreds of animal species in it.

We had our time limited in the park because at that point my son was still too mall to take a large hike. But luckily we were able to see a lot of wildlife such as monkeys, iguanas, and many colorful birds. There are hikes of different lengths and difficulties for everyone.

Osa Peninsula Weather

The Osa Peninsula climate was hot and humid, so walking was not the most pleasant thing, but it was worth it due to the beauty of the place and the relaxing sound of the animals and beach.

Just one word of advice for you adventurous travelers if you do go to the Osa Peninsula avoid the rainy season, if you don’t, you will be stuck along muddy and flooded roads. It is also a good idea to always travel by air to save time.

On the other hand, you will definitely find the place a very exciting venue for you and your family.

If you plan to travel in Costa Rica and to have a unique vacation experience with the people close to you, consider visiting this particular peninsula. You won’t be sorry!
