6 Amazing Reasons to Visit South Africa

1. Some of the best surfing in the world

South Africa, as a surfing destination came to my attention because of watching the movie Endless Summer. The same might be true of you too? South Africa has two major ocean currents across its 3000-kilometre coastline and with a long, long surfing season the country is a surfer’s paradise. There’s so many surf lessons options in South Africa that using the Info directory service to find the best is really handy!

2. You can stay in Nelson Mandela’s former home!

And no, that’s not the prison in which he spent so many years of his life – you can visit that. Mandela’s private residence is located at Shambala Private Game Reserve, just 160 kilometers north of Johannesburg can be rented out for vacations. Not cheap but with accommodation for you and 11 of your closest friends you can live in presidential style!

3. Some of the world’s best wines are in South Africa

There’s over 200 top notch wine cellars within just a couple of hours drive from Cape Town. The area has four top ranking wine regions to visit and sample the best of the produce: Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Wellington and Paarl. If wine is not to your taste then there’s a myriad of art galleries and eating places to sample while the wine lovers do their thing!

4. The nature is everywhere!

Zebra near Table Mountain, baboons near Cape Point, wild life safaris in the vast game reserves and for elephant lovers the The Knysna Elephant Park which, for 20 years has been caring for orphaned elephants -the first of its type in the country, is an essential visit.

5. The world’s coolest tree house – and it’s for grownups!

How do you like the idea of being left in a tree house with just mosquito repellent and a walkies talkie so that you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the South African bush? That seems idyllic to me! The Chalkey Tree house at the Lion Sands Game Reserve seems like an incredible experience. Listen to chattering hyenas and maybe the roar of a lion while enjoying a picnic supper and a night sleeping under the stars.

6. The beaches, the pristine beaches

The long coastline is home to some of the beast beaches in the world with wide golden sands and booming surf. Some of the best of the beaches can be found in Plettenberg bay on the Western Cape. Take a drive along the Garden Route and stop off to enjoy the beaches wherever you choose.

There’s just so much to do in South Africa, so many opportunities that sorting them all out is a challenge. The six bucket list suggestions that I have made are just the start of a great vacation in South Africa. Time to do some research and create your own list of places to go and experiences to enjoy.
