These apps are all easy to get and can make catching up with your loved ones easy even when you’re traveling the world over.

If you want to be able to use your smartphone as normal but don’t want to have to pay additional fees up upgrade your data plan, Ed Hewitt, a contributor to SmarterTravel.com, suggests setting up an mobile VoIP number that you can then have your calls transferred to and rerouted back to your phone over an available WiFi network. Although this takes a bit more planning and requires access to a reliable WiFi network, this option will allow you to use your phone in a normal way without having to cause you too much stress while you’re out enjoying your travels.
