3 Times a Quick Weekend Vacation is Warranted

Sometimes, people fall into the rut of only allowing themselves to travel when they can afford an extravagant trip. Forbes claims that the average summer vacation, in the United States mind you, costs $1,145 a person or $4,580 for a family.Three occasions that you can take advantage of to go on weekend vacations.Learn all about the advantages of weekend vacations.

But with over 50% of people having less than $1,000 in savings, this means that vacation is a once-a-year occurrence.

Beach Vacation Planning Tips

It doesn’t have to be this way. Weekend vacations are loads of fun, and these vacations don’t have to cost thousands of dollars. There are plenty of times that I will go away early Saturday morning, book the cheapest hotel I can find and then come back late Sunday night.

And if you’re feeling guilty about your quick weekend getaway, there are a few times when a weekend vacation is truly warranted.

1. Weekend vacations because Death in the Family

A death in the family is always a rough time in a person’s live. Grief vacations are often frowned upon in society, and I am not sure why. When someone in the family or a friend dies, you need time to go and relax.

Visit a favorite place that the deceased liked to go, spend time where you used to go on trips together or do something that reminds you of the good times you had with the person. Maybe they loved lighthouses, so you plan a trip to the beach.

The truth is that the person that has passed isn’t going to care that you’re giving yourself time to grieve.

2. Home or Outdoor Repairs / Construction

I used to live in an apartment, and everything was nice and peaceful until there was a sewer problem. Construction crews were outside until all hours of the night (breaking ordinances in many cases).

Problems kept occurring with me waking up at the early hours on the weekend while trench less pipe repair was going on.

Then they decided to knock the apartment building down next door and rebuild with new, more expensive apartments, which lead to even more noise. Eventually, I would start to take weekend trips, leaving on Friday and coming home Saturday night.

Most work wasn’t done on Sunday, so I was able to enjoy some peace and quiet.

When home repairs are going on or construction crews are keeping you up all night long, it’s time to give yourself some peace and quiet with a vacation.

3. Stressful Work Week

Working 40, 50 or 60 hours per week is not good. You need to have time to yourself, but people are working more hours. The truth is that this work all leads to stress. And stress is horrible for you.

Why?

Stress can cause:

  • Heart disease
  • Obesity
  • Asthma
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Heartburn
  • IBS

Vacation can help you relieve some of this stress even if it’s just a two or three-day occurrence. But some people get stressed when even thinking about vacation. Studies show that 1-in-4 Americans stress when taking earned time off.

If this is you, it may be better to have a weekend to spoil yourself instead. A massage, hot springs bath or some other form of relaxation may be in order.
