The type and quality of mattress you choose have a huge effect on your sleep. Aside from your preferred softness (or stiffness), getting a bed that keeps your back aligned while you sleep is recommended.

If your mattress is too soft, there’s this tendency that you might sink deviate from the ideal alignment of the spine while sleeping. If it’s too stiff, it may be uncomfortable. Generally, a comfy bed is somewhere between soft and stiff.

2. Keep the lights dim.

For most of us, we get better sleep when the room is dark. Some prefer to see a hint of light somewhere in the room when they wake up in the middle of the night. Others want to make sure that the path to the toilet is visible with some kind of light.

As much as possible, remove work-related materials from your room. Work primes your wakefulness. When it’s time for rest, you don’t want your brain sending you a signal that it’s time to work.

Also, make sure that you make your bed every time you wake up, so when it’s time to sleep, your bed doesn’t look cluttered.

5. Control your room’s temperature.

Keeping your room temperature at around 65 degrees to 72 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for sleep. According to research, this is the average temperature that is most comfortable for most people. If you are not sure what your comfort level is, you can try setting your AC around this temperature and adjust accordingly.

6. Invest in your sheets and change them regularly.

You can find a large selection of fabrics online, department stores, and specialty stores. They come in different shapes, sizes and are priced accordingly. The most expensive ones don’t always mean they are the best for you.

Find beddings with moisture-wicking fabrics to prevent sweating or feeling warm at night. These fabrics are breathable and promote comfort while you sleep. It doesn’t have to be luxurious or expensive. The most important thing you want to consider is how comfortable the fabric feels to your skin.

Also, changing bed sheets regularly is a good idea. Aside from being a hygienic practice, the fresh scent of newly washed linen is relaxing too.
