6 Exciting New Boats Launched at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019

In much of Mediterranean Europe, one of the most exciting times of the year for cruising and sailing is at the start of the fall season, when strong autumn winds and animated sea currents buoy and propel the spirits of yachtsmen just as much as they do the continent’s sizable fleet of pleasure watercraft. And at the top of many people’s calendar this time of the year is the Cannes Yachting Festival, which takes place annually in the bay of Cannes in France. Here, distinguished yachtsmen, racers, and boatbuilders come together for one of Europe’s biggest boating events.

The recently concluded 2019 edition of the festival was held from September 10 to 15, 2019, in Vieux Port and Port Canto, drawing a crowd of more than 51,000 visitors. The event featured a luxury gallery inside the Palais des Festivals and a grand parade of vintage and contemporary boats called the Concours d’Élégance, which was meant to pay tribute to the legacy of the sport. However, for many of the participants, the true highlight was Cannes’s illustrious boat show. Here, 638 boats of various lengths and sizes were put on display, representing the work of 542 exhibitors. As many as 219 new models—122 of which made their debut on the world stage—were also exhibited during the show.

Premier motorboat and sailboat Philippines distributor Europa Yachts watched the action unfold from both Port Canto, the festival’s designated exhibit area for new sailboats, and from Port Vieux, which hosted new, top-of-the-line motorboats. From this crop of new boat models, the representatives from Europa Yachts were most excited most about the following vessels:

New Boats Launched at the Cannes Yachting Festival

1. Bénéteau First Yacht 53

Bénéteau is possibly the most illustrious name in leisure boating, but the French boating conglomerate is also proud of its racing heritage. With naval architecture from Biscontini Yacht Design and both deck and interior design from Lorenzo Argento, the 17.14-meter-long First Yacht 53 boasts features that are a proper testament to Bénéteau’s competitive pedigree.

Her perfectly balanced hull—a distillation of Roberto Biscontini’s three decades of experience in the America’s Cup—is guaranteed to perform well during racing activities. Her deck plan is streamlined, and her interiors are minimalist but elegant at the same time. As such, she is a powerhouse of a sail boat that Philippine-based yachtsmen will certainly want to board on their next regatta.

2. Bénéteau Oceanis 30.1

Another sailboat from Bénéteau that is sure to be a hit in the Philippines is the small, but extremely seaworthy Oceanis 30.1. She may be the shortest among Bénéteau’s new offerings, at a mere 9.53 meters, but she is nonetheless constructed to hold her own in all aspects of sailing, thanks to the ingenious design work of Finot-Conq and Nauta Design. Her hard-chine hull, square-top canvas mainsail, self-tacking jib, and single winch system make her incredibly easy to handle and maneuver. Moreover, her spacious deck and snug double cabins will make her a joy to take along for overnight journeys.

3. Bénéteau Swift Trawler 41 Sedan

A standout among the motor vessels exhibited in Vieux Port, the 13.43-meter-long Bénéteau Swift Trawler 41 Sedan is a speed boat that Philippine-based passengers will enjoy. She can accommodate up to seven passengers at a time, and with her flared-out hull she’s able to quickly and powerfully cut through the water. Her deck and her interiors, designed by longtime Bénéteau collaborator Andreani Design, ensure maximum comfort and unity of space. After a day spent cruising on the high seas, passengers on the Swift Trawler 41 Sedan can relax and stretch their legs in her Ultra-comfortable lounge space.

4. Bénéteau Monte Carlo 52

Another vessel that Bénéteau debuted at Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 is a 16.33-meter-long flybridge powerboat, the Monte Carlo 52. She is currently the face for Bénéteau’s new generation of “Smart Luxury” boats. With naval architecture from Carlo Nuvolari and Den Lenard, and interior design from Andreani Design, she possesses a one-of-a-kind slender profile that nonetheless allows for a lot of space inside. She is the ideal cruising companion for island-hopping tours of the country, the kind where gorgeous sunsets and a glass or two of champagne is the norm.

5. Bénéteau Gran Turismo 32

Another addition to the Bénéteau’s family, the Gran Turismo 32 is created to be the ideal entry-level express cruiser for anyone who plans to step up from a day boat. Utilizing the deck plan of the Flyer 10 powerboat, this vessel is optimized to make the best use of available space while maintaining the inimitable élan of the Gran Turismo line. Not only does the GT 32 afford good head clearance, but she also provides supreme visibility and ventilation, ensuring that no one on board will ever feel claustrophobic. Combine these with luxurious interiors and a modern exterior that reflects light elegantly, and you’re sure to have a boat that will be the envy of many.

6. Lagoon Sixty 7

Last but not least in this lineup of new Cannes offerings is the Lagoon Sixty 7, a motorized catamaran created as a successor to the previous Lagoon model, the Seventy 8. VPLP Design spearheaded its naval architecture, while Nauta Design and Patrick Le Quément took charge of interior and exterior design, respectively. The overall design philosophy that governs the clean lines and graceful form of the Lagoon Sixty 7 is “reasoned elegance,” according to Le Quément—or as Leonardo da Vinci puts it, “sophistication through simplicity.” The more-than-24-meter-long Lagoon Sixty 7 is a catamaran Philippine yachtsmen can take around anywhere—it will always stand out, despite its understated luxury.

The Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 may be over, but for Philippine-based yachting veterans and enthusiasts, the fun is just getting started. Find out how you, too, can experience the boundless pleasures that these six vessels afford.
