The permits

One thing you need to know before you start all of the planning is that now anyone can do this any day. There is an established quota of people that can do these tours daily. Only about 150 people are allowed to go into the parks where the gorillas are, per day.

To go on a Gorilla Trek in Uganda you need to get a permit. This means that there is usually a waiting list of a few months. So start the booking process with at least 3 months in advance.

Most tour agencies that offer these tours will gladly do this for you if you ask. Also, keep in mind that the $700 fee for the permit.

What to wear

You will be going to a forest with a humid climate. This means that in order for you to be comfortable and safe you need to wear the right clothing. you will need at least waterproof hiking boots so that you don’t fall and keep your feet dry and without blisters. Water-resistant hiking pants, moisture-wicking shirt, preferably long-sleeved, hat and a light rain jacket.

Plus, even if it is cloudy make sure to put on some sunscreen, you might get sunburn even without strong sun rays.

Finding the right tour for you

The different tour agencies offer tours that go from a few hours to ten whole days out in the wild and along many different trails. First, you need to figure out how much time you have and then you can start discussing with the agency of your choice to help you locate a tour that adjusts to your needs.

Some might include camping or boat rides, some others might include accommodations and the longest tours might even include safaris to go see the big five.

Options are almost endless to sake your time to compare.

Will I see Gorillas?

The right travel agency will make sure you get the highest percentage of seeing gorillas. There are many ways to do this, some do it by keeping in contact with park rangers, others send people into the park to search for them before the tours and I’m sure they do some other stuff too.

But even with all of these precautions, there is no guarantee. They are wild animals who love moving around, so keep in mind that your chances are a little over 90%.
