Britain’s been a global hub for fashion since the Swinging 60s and London’s still a hotspot for any self-respecting fashionista.
But there are also locations outside of the main metropolis where you’ll find vibrant pockets of creative energy and designers producing work that’s internationally-acclaimed.
So the capital might be your first stop on a style tour of the UK, but make time for trips to the four corners of the British Isles so you don’t miss out on some unexpected treats.
Here are three fashion events that showcase the best of British style.
London Fashion Week
London Fashion Week holds seasonal shows in February and September each year that attract fans of haute couture and cutting-edge design from around the world.
You’ll find famous and emerging exhibitors from British and international brands and you’re sure to rub shoulders with more than a few famous faces.
You’ll have to plan ahead to book tickets in advance but if you’ve really got the gift of the gab you might be able to blag your way into a premium catwalk show or after- party.
Associated events are held around the capital at these crucial dates so get them pencilled into your diary ahead of time.
And London’s a shopping capital all year round — so there are plenty of chic boutiques and beautiful concept stores to keep you busy during downtime between shows.
Manchester Fashion Week
Northern powerhouse Manchester is a hotspot that might rival London in terms of its cultural currency.
Home to two of the world’s biggest football clubs, it’s also the birthplace of bands like The Smiths, Joy Division, Oasis, The Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses — as well as the iconic Hacienda nightclub.
If you’re a fan of female fashion with a funky edge you’ll find everything from pretty party dresses to platform heels in vintage boutiques in the Northern Quarter.
But save space in your diary for Manchester Fashion Week on 21-22 May 2018 at Manchester Met University Union.
You’ll see stunning designs from diverse creatives that simultaneously capture the unique spirit of the city and set out its stall as a multicultural centre that influences music and style around the world.
If you want to experience a unique culture that attracts millions of tourists from around the world, Scotland’s only a brief flight or train ride away from any UK location.
Scotland Re:designed is held each November and features the stunning talents of Scottish creatives in the fields of clothing, furniture, interior design and jewellery.
It’s well worth a visit if you want to experience a warm Caledonian welcome and some of the best designers Britain has to offer.
These three fashion events that showcase the best of British style should provide enough stylish inspiration to fire your imagination for the whole year.
