To achieve pro titles in mountain biking you need to train. There is no way around it.
If you listen to professional mountain bikers, they will talk about the endless hours of training they have.
Living in Antigua, Guatemala there are little places to train well unless you go to parks.
Gratefully, our friends at El Azote MTB Parq, close to Antigua opened up an awesome pump track where the boys can bike train til their hearts content.
The Benefits of a Pump Track for Serious MTB Bike Training:
If you don’t know what a pump track, which I didn’t until my family got immersed in the world of mountain biking, it’s an off road cycling track that offers many different circuits for cycling training, bike jumps and use of ramps to challenge the biker.
Normally pump tracks follow a track, that has many different obstacles to rev you up
The whole point of a pump track is to pump your bike from one little hill to another picking up speed along the way
Ramps – using ramps for different areas helps the cyclist push their limits
Purposeful – the way we utilize the mtb trail is more than just going for the jumps, but as a perfect training tool of going around the track ten times before doing the obstacles
Kids love it, and it’s a good way to keep them under control. Plus they are always in your site if the track isn’t too big.
Normally pump tracks aren’t huge in terrain but can have many different circuits all within eyes view.
Each time the kids go around we time them, to see if they can improve in their timing which is a great way to train for cross country bike races.
I love it for the beauty.
Jumps – this is always a biggie for kids and big kids. What I love about this particular track is that it’s for one bike at a time and when the kids are doing jumps no other bike will come at them out of no where.
Our goal is to train weekly at this track and then hit up other tracks and mountain biking trails near by to keep the kids ready for any terrain.
