1. Pack lightly
While airlines have made it much easier for travelers to carry a good amount of their belongings by setting satisfactory levels for the weight of travel bags and number of handbags/carry bags one can carry during a flight, trust me, you do not want to carry more than one or maybe two small carry bags with you. The reason is simple, the more stuff you carry, especially the kind that you have to put under the seat, the less space will be there for you. And, you do not want to give up a comfortable flight experience in exchange for achy, cramped legs just so that you can carry one more bag.
2. Try to get an upgrade
You will have to spend a few extra bucks but it is totally worth having enough and comfortable breathing space and legroom to relax, entertainment to keep boredom at bay and have first-class edible meals on time. So, if you are going away on a long flight, make sure to check with your travel agent if you can get an upgrade.
3. Keep yourself busy
The last thing you want is to get bored during a long flight because as soon as boredom sets in, you will start feeling uncomfortable, making the rest of the flying hours unbearable. So, listen to music, watch some movies you had been wanting to see or maybe catch up with your pending work. In fact, if you manage to get an upgrade, entertainment will be much easier as even if you forget to upload movies in your laptop or iPad before boarding the flight, you can just swipe your card and any movie you want to see will be made available to you right away.
4. Rest well before and during boarding the flight
Long flights can be tiresome. After all, you have to stay in one place- in almost the same position for a long time, you are bound to get tired. So, it is a good idea to catch some rest before your flight and sleep when you start to droop during the flight. Fighting to stay awake will only make you extremely tired and cranky.
5. Put on compression socks
Since long flights require you to stay in one position for a variably long time, some amount of discomfort in your legs is unavoidable. However, the good news is that you can reduce the pain and cramps by wearing compression socks. These socks apply graduated pressure from the feet to knee, which increases the circulation in your legs, thereby relaxing the muscles and relieving the pain.
