Celebrate the New Year by the Sea

Since 2014, brightly lit Christmas trees have lined Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Ocean City, MD. The Avenue of Trees runs from November 17th to the New Year’s Day. But, it’s just one thing that draws folks to OC for the start of the New Year.

Fireworks Extravaganza

The 24th Annual Ocean City Winterfest of Lights, spread over 50 acres at Northside Park will end with a huge firework display at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Thousands gather yearly for the show, live entertainment, and sweet hot chocolate. No wonder Maryland Life Magazine listed it as “Maryland’s Finest Holiday Tradition.”

Penguin Swim

Each January 1st, the Atlantic General Hospital runs a Penguin Swimming event to raise funds for its foundation.

According to the Atlantic General Hospital Foundation, “hundreds of Penguins raise funds to help the hospital provide the excellent quality care our community depends on.” There are individual and team events in indoor pool at the Princess Royale Beachfront Hotel.

There are a number of indoors pools at hotels in Ocean City, Maryland that, according to the folks at the nearby Princess Royale Bayside resort, welcome “family vacations, romantic getaways and business trips with a special blend of excitement and relaxation.”

New Year’s Parties

Seacrets Jamaica USA is taking reservations for its annual New Year’s Eve Bash. There will be live entertainment on two stages and dinner at four different settings.

Casino at Ocean Downs in nearby Berlin, MD is open 365 days each year for live horse racing and slots with live entertainment, dining, and drink specials on New Year’s Eve.

More special holiday event packages are scheduled at the Princess Royale, Clarion, Fager’s Island and more.


And, restaurants from waterfront dining at the Crabcake Factory Bayside to oceanfront dining at Horizons Oceanfront Restaurant and Ocean Club Nightclub promise upscale dining and entertainment.

If you are looking for something more casual, the legendary rustic Harborside Bar & Grill has been named 2016 Winner of Coastal Lifestyle award.

And, it’s a family day at the Annual Ocean City Mayor and City Council’s Open House. Local entertainers keep things moving at the Performing Arts Center from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon.

Keeping with tradition, there are multiple interactive displays presented by the Police, Fire, Emergency Services, and Beach Patrol in the Ocean City Convention Center.

Golf Packages

Most Ocean City Hotels offer holiday gift packages including play at more than one of the 18 championship quality courses in the area.

The Bay Club in Berlin, MD rolls among the wetlands and woodland’s of the Maryland Eastern Shore. Two much admired courses offer 36-holes of challenging golf all year round.

Lighthouse Sound boasts 10 holes right on the water within 1,000 acres of marsh, wetlands, and forest that got it listed among the Top 10 New Public Golf Facilities in America. And, the Restaurant at Lighthouse offers a romantic fine-dining experience at the St. Martin’s Road location.

Lighthouse lists its “sister courses” at Nutters Crossing, rum Pointe, GlenRiddle, and Ruark Golf, each offering reciprocal packages and privileges.
