Panajachel is the most popular town on Atitlan Lake of Guatemala. The place is filled with expats that were planning on staying for just a month.
The town is located right on the spot where a battle between the Spaniards and their Cakchiquel allies against the Tzutuhils took place. The Spaniards won and soon after that they set up a church and monastery. The original façade of the church stills stands, and is one of the gems of the colonial style in Guatemala.
The area is known as a place to relax & to enjoy its night life, learn Spanish & chill in the hot springs. It’s also a great base for adventure and nature activities: Boat tours , Lake Kayaking and Scuba diving.
