Mixco Viejo, Mayan Ruins in Guatemala
Mixco Viejo is an archaeological site of Guatemala also known among locals as Jilotepeque Viejo and is located in the department of Chimaltenango. It is a moderate sized ruined city of the Post-Classic Era Maya civilization. It was once the capital of the Pocomam Mayan People. The places was destroyed in 1525 by Pedro de Alvarado.

- This militant city of the Pocomam Maya, is one of the most strategically based sites. Situated between two deep ravines, there is only one way in and one way out.
- Plus, to fortify its status, the Maya built rock walls all around the city.
- Pedro de Alvarado, with his troops, attacked for a month before they ravished and destroyed the city of 10,000 people.
- In 1960s the restoration project began.

How to Get There
Hop on bus from Guatemala City going to Pachalum (four per day) and get off at the entrance of the ruins.
