The Perfect Recipe for Backpackers Gallo Pinto

Here is a great suggestion for breakfast, however it can also be eaten at any given moment. This is one of the most traditional dishes of Costa Rica.

This is also a great option for backpackers because it’s really cheap and filling, even vegetarians, and vegans can eat it.

5 Ingredients:

3 cups of cooked rice
3 cuos of refried beans
2 tablespoons of cilantro
1 tablespoon bell pepper, finely chopped
Salsa Lizano

5 Steps to Cooking It!

1. Saute onion and bell pepper in oil on medium heat.
2. Add beans and cook two minutes longer.
3. Add rice and mix.
4. Cook three minutes more.
5. Add the cilantro & mix well.

  1. Looks delicious! But wow that is huge!! How many does that serve? Are your instructions for this based on the serving size above? With these ingredients, is it safe to eat with a large group of people? :)
